A process where the administration of an estate is carried out by an executor (administrator)
set down in the will of the deceased. In the case where there is not a named executor,
an administrator may be appointed by the court.
The two terms are often used interchangeably. The actual administration
of the estate is carried out both with all interested parties present, and by the
executor or administrator alone who ensures that all debts and taxes of the estate
are paid and promised.
Administration of estate also includes the proper distribution of
assets, attending to the validity of heirs and beneficiaries, and the filing of
proper forms and documents to satisfy the legal requirements of the closing of the
estate.
